will you be my valentine?

and so there comes the time of year when you wish there was that someone there to buy you roses and chocolate, take you out on a date and make you feel special. For all who know what i'm on about, don't worry.. the extremity of that longing usually only lasts a day. yep that's the same as the day where everyone seems to be going on triple dates and when roses are way overpriced.
okay so i'm not actually that bitter, or at least i don't want poeple seeing me that way. I always wondered what's up with valentines day, i mean if you REALLY loved someone would need a certain day to show it? and double triple dating? way overated, and it loses all the romance- but watever.
So anyway i looked into the history of St. Valentine and this is what i foundn (it was really long and complicated so here's the summary) :
Valentines day originated in Rome. Emperor Claudius II, emporer of the time, wanted a large army but many men were attatched to women and families. So as a result he cancelled all marraiges and engagements in rome. St. Valentine was a pope who secretly wed couples despite this ban. When discovered of his workings the emperor condemned him to death. he died on February 14, leaving a goodbye note to his 'friend' signed, "from your valentine". The already ancient tradition of young men choosing the names of girls from a jar then proceeded to occur on this day and from then on the valentines day tradition continued. but it only commercialised when cards were first sold in the US in around the 1800s.
so there you have it, origin of valentines day. glad to know it wasn't a holiday created by the americans, no offense or anything. but don't get me wrong i had fun today, Big mama's house 2 is damn funny and i had fun in empo with pim. and i actually had a pretty romantic end to the day: rose in one hand, a chocolate in the other, slightly warm from the cherry brandy (all freebies from a restaurant) and strolling down my street lined with tourist buses and garbage trucks. charming huh?

Line of the day (sick but funny i just had to add it): a way to a man's heart is not through his stomach, ur about 4 inches too high.

I very much doubt that history of yours of St Valentine. Why? Cus I know that it's not true.
